True Love and Light

The mighty works and glory of the God of the universe are witnessed through the amazing structures of heaven and Earth. The more scientists discover about how marvelous the universe is, the more people see the wonders of the creation. The general revelation of nature shows us the power of the Creator.

People may ask, “What is God?” or “How do I know if God exists so I can communicate with Him?” Different religions tried to tell people who is God and what is God throughout the civilization of mankind. Specific revelations from the Bible communicate to us about God’s nature and who He is.

Just like we engraved some pictures and songs in the “Golden Record” of Voyager I and II, spaceships sent to the outer space to introduce who humans are, God tells us who “God is” through the Bible.

By searching the Bible with the exact keywords of “God is,” I can learn directly what the divine nature is. For example:

God is light        (I John 1:5)

     God is love        (I John 4: 8)

There are certainly more places in the Bible telling us His nature: stories, Psalms, Proverbs, letters, etc. The direct declarations of the divine nature are the best introductions to God so we can know Him better, and we can build the relationship between God and humankind.

Even on a human level, you need to know a little more about a person’s character, nature, likes, dislikes, etc. before you can establish relationships. These include friendships, teachers/students, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, etc.

I did not know my father very well when I was young because he worked about 360 days a year, including most weekends. The Chinese culture at that time also kept most fathers from expressing themselves in terms of his loving relationships. Their way to show love to their children was to provide enough food, education, and a living for the family.

Not until I became a father, did I understand a little more about his nature by spending some time with him when I visited Hong Kong. However, I still missed the “golden opportunity” to know my father when I was young because he was always busy and not available.

I learned the lesson of not repeating the same mistakes. I made sure to spend reasonable and enough time with my children when they were under twelve years old. After that age, their tendency and preference turn to spending more time with their friends. But time shared with them while young will last as memorable moments for life.

In that sense, time is life and life is the meaningful moments people spend together. A Chinese proverb says, “An inch of time for an inch of gold, yet an inch of gold cannot buy an inch of time.” The wisdom is that the value of the immaterial essence of time, exceeds that of the most precious substance in the world.

On the other hand, God is always available, and He is waiting for us to spend time with Him in communicating, fellowship, walking, serving, and building relations. To spend time effectively in knowing God, we can build a good relationship with Him by studying the Bible regularly. With a computer readily at hand, people nowadays can learn the divine nature systematically and efficiently.

I will discuss more about True Love and Light in my next blog!
