What’s Behind the Beauty?

The amazingly sophisticated arrangement and order of this universe could only be possible by pointing to a Creator, who was behind all the well-designed formulation of all visible and invisible things operating within this universe. In addition, He is also a Designer above and beyond the material things of this universe.

As clearly communicated through the Bible, both Old Testament [1] and New Testament: “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”[2] To my understanding of God’s Spirit, He is not limited by time and space. Therefore, He is above and beyond the material things of the universe.

The beautiful world we see today is mainly comprised of periodic and quasi-periodic materials, reflecting the Designer who designed them with wisdom and special mathematical rules. One of the examples for the quasi-periodic sequence is the Fibonacci sequence.

The number of petals on a flower, for instance, will often be a Fibonacci number. The seeds of sunflowers and pinecones twist in opposing spirals of Fibonacci numbers. The “golden ratio” is best approximated by Fibonacci numbers. This ratio is sometimes called the “divine proportion,” because of its frequency in the natural world.[3]

The golden ratio appeared in nature to make the world more beautiful and practical than ordinary periodic structures. The quasi-periodic crystal gives rise to fivefold symmetry in an x-ray diffraction pattern not possible in periodic crystals[4], nor in random-structure crystals.
