Why did Christ come?

Good question! A reader, Mr. C. B. from South Africa, asked the question. My response: God wants to have direct contact with human instead of to be far away in 3rd heaven to look down on us.

While the world is full of hatred, suffering, sickness and depression, He came to express and teach us what is true love, forgiveness and healing us not only physically but also spiritually inside to bring us joy, peace and hope again.

If Christ did not come, we are still in darkness, no peace and no hope for eternity. But He did come to scarify Himself, experienced rejection, greatest pain and suffering so He knows and understands our situation. Christ is the only God-man that is “the way, the truth and the life” to bring us back to the Heavenly Father (John 14: 6).

As Isaiah 53: 11 – 12 says, “After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,    and he will divide the spoils with the strong,

because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”  (NIV)

The Creator of the heaven and Earth can bring harmony to all His creation as showed in the beauty of sky, ocean, trees, flowers, and so on. Different sciences lie behind the planets and biological life, which provide opportunities for human beings to understand and study the wonders. Meanwhile, the many artistic visages in all creatures allow human beings to appreciate and share the wonders. The Creator possesses divine wisdom, like a perfect scientist and a perfect artist, harmoniously balancing both science and art. Jesus Christ expresses God and Prince of Peace to bring harmony among different people in this world.

In addition, God is a speaking God. When He speaks, creation and order follow. If God did not speak at the beginning, nothing material would exist. There will be no heaven and earth. There would be no human beings, and you would not have existed. Have you wondered why you exist? It is because God continued to speak right after the “beginning.” Therefore, order and light replace void and darkness when God speaks. Because God speaks, the order, science, and life spring up and shine forth as the beautiful creation in the world.

In God’s creation, the human being is the most “beautiful” creature He ever created as we were created in His image. God wants us to listen to His speaking so we can communicate with God to build an intimate relation with Him eternally. However, the disobedience of Adam and Eve blocked the communication channel between the entire human race and God. There was only one way to resume His communication with human beings.

By His wisdom of speaking through Jesus Christ, any human being willing to receive Christ can have a new life in the new creation. This new creation replaces the old creation, which was under the condemnation of God because of Adam’s and Eve’s disobedience. However, “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”.

This is the key for all the believers to come back to the heavenly Father through the Son of God, Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. All those people in Christ Jesus can be united back to the triune God through their faith in Christ.
